the united healthcare shooter being an “anti-woke” racist conservative italian-american 20-something dude is so funny. maga have been non-stop freaking out about how “a leftist did this” when we all know full well the only thing a leftist can do is make posts on the internet.
the dude who shot trump was the exact same profile. young, socially reactionary, disaffected. the right is creating these dudes who then go on to taxi driver their own. i honestly hope it happens a million more times 😂
the wonderful thing is that this will continue to happen, because maga deals only in orwellian doublespeak. they frame anyone who does anything they don’t like as no true scotsman and therefore refuse to engage in de-radicalizing their adherents.
so as these men who spend all day listening to manosphere podcasts about the decay of western civilization, like this shooter did, decide to take matters into their own hands, they will continue to target people and institutions they see as personally harming them. those targets will often be billionaires. the plutocracy/maga era of the republican party will hopefully be a bloody one for them.
update: i posted a reply informing people of the shooter’s views, especially his boosting of sam harris’ rhetoric that black people are “differently human” (subhuman) and therefore have a “genetically” lower IQ capacity than white people. this is a foundational white supremacist belief that goes beyond mere manosphere blabber. in response, both leftist and right wing white people have spent all afternoon telling me “no one cares about woke”. they outright dismiss his racism so they can valorize him.
i said this in one of my replies, but this demonstrates so starkly to me how something like the holocaust happened in a first-world european nation. it seems to me that most white people have an inability to feel human empathy for anyone who isn’t like them, perhaps due to their apex position within white supremacy. this makes it easy for them to not only excuse racist ideologies that lead to violence, but also to participate in said violence once they’ve completely dehumanized non-white people.
in any case, neo-nazis on twitter and other social media sites have now identified the shooter as one of their own. the more mainstream right are attempting to reconcile his “good” politics (being
racist“anti-woke”) with his “bad” actions (killing a rich white man). while the shooter was clearly a white supremacist, i don’t think he was a neo-nazi or affiliated with any organized group in any way. mostly because neo-nazis are among the least-educated radical factions in the US, and this guy had an ivy league pedigree.at this point, no one (besides neo-nazis) wants to discuss his racism, so i’ll be interested to see how pundits across the political frame him in the coming months, as he seems to be an actual fully-fledged folk hero of white america across the political spectrum.
